California Fan Palm 10 Seeds Washingtonia Filifera
The magnificent desert spoon (Dasylirion acrotrichum) is native to Mexico and Guatemala. This eye-catching plant is highly favored by landscapers for use in both arid and tropical gardens. It grows slowly, taking between 7 to 10 years to bloom, and produces cream-hued plumes on a stalk that can reach lengths of 1.8 to 4.5 meters. From the sap harvested from its trunk, an alcoholic drink is created.
USDA hardiness zone 9a to 11b: ranging from 20 °F (−6.7 °C) to 50 °F (+10 °C).
How to Grow and Care
Dasylirions are slow-growing, low-maintenance, and tough plants that can handle drought. They do grow quicker with proper watering (just avoid getting the crown wet, as it can rot easily). In your garden, make sure to plant them in a sunny spot with good drainage, and give them extra water during dry summer months.
These plants are perfect for xeriscape gardens and fit nicely in both tropical and dry landscapes. Smaller plants are quite affordable, but larger ones can be quite pricey. They also make fantastic potted plants, and their symmetrical shape creates a stunning focal point.
They do best in full sunlight but can tolerate some shade and humidity. Use very fast-draining soil and limit watering in the winter. Treat them like succulents. They prefer areas where winter temperatures stay above 50°F (10°C) but can withstand some frost. If you have them in pots, you can bring them indoors during extended cold spells.
