Yucca Rostrata, also known as Beaked yucca, is originally from Texas and nearby northeastern Mexico. It belongs to the asparagus family (Asparagaceae). The name 'beaked' comes from the Latin word for the pointed end of the fruit, which resembles a beak.

This yucca thrives in well-drained, sandy soil and requires at least half a day of full sunlight. Other types of well-drained soil are fine too. It's one of the toughest trunk-forming yuccas, able to withstand cold temperatures down to zone 5.

This tree-like yucca is a beautiful, slow-growing evergreen that has a perfectly symmetrical, pom-pom shape. The trunk is adorned with remnants of old leaves, while a rosette of leaves crowns the top. A healthy specimen can boast over a hundred leaves, each about 2 feet long. The leaves are a lovely pale blue-green and sway gracefully in the wind. Unlike other yucca varieties, this plant has softer leaves, making it less hazardous. Mature plants will produce clusters of waxy, white flowers at the top. In the wild, yucca moth larvae feed on the seeds, and the adult moths help pollinate the flowers by transferring pollen to the stigmas.

Beaked yucca is perfect for xeric gardens, winter gardens, or night gardens, where its silvery leaves shine beautifully in the moonlight. It serves as a stunning accent or specimen plant.

Insects, Diseases, and Other Plant Issues: There are no major problems. You might encounter minor issues with red spiders, spider mites, mealybugs, scale, and aphids. It's best to avoid planting in areas with poor drainage, as overwatering can cause root rot.
