This is the classic, dependable zucchini that just keeps on giving! They’re quite similar to Black Beauty, but they mature a little faster, taking around 50 days. They’re dark green and nice and straight, growing to about 8" in length.

History tells us that Columbus brought this unfamiliar member of the cucumber family back to Europe after his first trip. In Italy, it got the name "zucchino," which means a small squash; the French call it "courgette," a name that the English later picked up. Italian immigrants eventually brought the zucchini back to the U.S., where it became the most popular and widely available type of summer squash.

Gardeners in areas with short growing seasons might want to kick off their dark green zucchini summer squash seeds indoors about a month before the last frost is expected.
Since squashes don’t really like being transplanted, using peat pots is the way to go. Plant two seeds in each pot and later snip off the weaker seedling. Take out the good seeds and lay them out to dry for 2-3 weeks, giving them a stir now and then to ensure they dry thoroughly.
